Raili Mäkinen
Raili Mäkinen (1944) has been Chief Executive Officer of Sanoma Magazines Finland since 2003, when she succeeded Eija Ailasmaa. Raili Mäkinen joined Helsinki Media (now Sanoma Magazines Finland) in 2000, as a Publisher of Magazines. In August 2002, she was appointed acting President of Sanoma Magazines Finland.
Raili Mäkinen has made a brilliant career within the Finnish publishing world, having started in 1970, as the Editor-in-Chief of special magazines at United Magazines Ltd. Previously she has worked with different publishing companies, magazines, books as well as newspapers, e.g. as Publishing Director of Gummerus, a book publisher and Publishing Director of the Special Books Unit of the Finnish Reader's Digest. She returned to United Magazines as Publishing Director of its largest magazine unit.
Raili Mäkinen is a member of the Management Board of Sanoma Magazines, and among her daily duties she also acts as Chairman of the Finnish Periodical Publishers Association for the second term. As a board member of FIPP, she is able to follow the global magazine business closely.
