About Sanoma Magazines

Sanoma Magazines was established in 2001 after the Finnish media group SanomaWSOY acquired the consumer magazine business Consumer Information Group from the Dutch publishing house VNU. SanomaWSOY merged the Consumer Information Group with its own magazine division Helsinki Media in October 2001, and Sanoma Magazines was established.

Although Sanoma Magazines was founded in 2001, the predecessors of our company already have a long and proud history behind them. In the Czech republic for instance the weekly woman's magazine Kvety was published for the first time in 1834. As far as we know, this magazine is the oldest magazine in the world that is still being published. Today, Kvety is published by Sanoma Magazines Praha.

Since its establishment Sanoma Magazines has grown organically, through strategic acquisitions and joint ventures in new and existing markets and through greenfield operations. Currently we are active in 13 different countries. Next to Belgium, Finland and the Netherlands, Sanoma Magazines occupies leading positions in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Russia. The company is also active in Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Ukraine.
